Onyx Champa Aari Silk

Black shisha silk, worked in champagne aari at the throat, the cuffs and the hem. The silk shows gray where it folds.

It hangs loose from the shoulders to about mid-thigh. Full sleeves flare open at the wrist, loose enough to fall back from the forearm when the arm is raised.

A band of champagne flowers and leaves sits high at the throat like a choker, with a large open flower on one side. Below it the front opens in a deep keyhole, edged down both sides with small black loops. From the point of the keyhole a thin black line runs down toward the waist, set with two small champagne buds, each with a pearl-like bead hanging beneath.

At the hem, an arch of leaves frames a cluster of flowers on one side, and from there flowers and curling stems trail along the edge and climb the other side to about the hip. A smaller spray of flowers and leaves sits at each cuff. Apart from the two buds, the front of the shirt is left plain between the neck and the hem.

The aari stands slightly raised, outlining each petal and leaf in rope-like lines.

The shirt is shown with a full black shalwar gathered at the ankle and a sheer black dupatta.
